Weekly Planning using the Plum Paper Memory Keeper Book (52 Planners in 52 Weeks: Week 8)

Posted on

For week 8 of the 52 planners in 52 weeks challenge I used the Plum Paper Memory Keeper Book.

It has almost the same layout as the left page of the Plum Paper Horizontal Lined weekly planner but without the month at a glance section (which I think is a waste of planning space anyway).

This notebook is 7" wide x 9" high and is undated - it's designed for memory keeping for your kids or journaling but I decided to turn it into a weekly planner instead.

Before The Pen

I was going to make stickers that fit the width of each of the columns but then I figured I'd just use header stickers - they fit the 3 boxes in the vertical Erin Condren life planner but also fit the width of the Plum Paper Planner :)

I went for a rainbow colored theme this week (which probably doesn't come as a surprise!) I decided to color code by category and time. My categories were:

  • Don't forget (business)
  • Don't forget (personal)
  • Must do
  • Should do
  • If I have time
  • Personal
  • Cleaning
  • Meal Plan

I tried to keep business and blog stuff to the left and personal stuff to the right so that everything was neatly separated.

Note: I peeled off the stickers a little bit because the perfectionist in me wanted the stickers evening spaced in the top box. Most label paper is forgiving and you can usually lift them up a couple of times but I did it a few too many hence why the corners are a little crinkled. Note that I was using non-removable matte label paper.

I tried to stick to just 3 tasks per category - working with the rule of 3 idea.

Would I use this layout again?

I think I would!

  • I liked that it was nice and simple and everything was condensed on the one page
  • Categorising tasks according to priority of importance and timeframe is something I should do more often as it helped me focus on what to do first rather than getting overwhelmed
  • There wasn't a lot of room to write so it prevented me from over-scheduling
  • The don't forget section was a good idea but it only ended up being big enough for 1 task for personal and 1 task for business related - these tasks probably could have been moved to the 'personal' and the 'must do' sections instead
  • Liked the white space/blank line between each category - the white space kept the layout neat and tidy

What I'd change if I used this layout again:

  • I would probably swap out the spending sticker and put another top 3 sticker. I use my budget binder to track spending. I take receipts out of my wallet at the end of the week and record them so I don't really need to record them twice using the sticker. Instead I'd replace the spending sticker with a second top 3 sticker so that I'd have one for business top 3 tasks and another for top 3 tasks for personal
  • The don't forget section was a good idea but I ended up putting tasks in this section that could have gone in the must do section
  • I'd probably take out the cleaning section and just stick to using a habit tracker so it wouldn't be 'doubling up'
  • Instead of writing out the letters for each day in the meal planning section I'd use days of the week stickers or stamps as that section ended up looking a bit cluttered
