Smiggle Stationery Haul (worth the cost?)

Posted on

Some women buy clothes and shoes. I buy stationery. I have no self control, especially when it comes to rainbow stationery. So walking past Smiggle on my lunch break? Not a good idea. I decided to just ‘pop in’ and walked out with a ton of cute rainbow pens and highlighters :)

SMIGGLE HAUL & REVIEW

This is not a sponsored post – I purchased the pens with my own money and all opinions are my own.

SMIGGLE TWIN TIP SCENTED MARKERS

These markers are dual tip with a thin and fat end making them idea for writing headings in your planner. The colors are so nice. And there’s a teal in the pack – a color that’s hard to find in pens! These are my new favorite marker pens :)

ERASABLE HIGHLIGHTERS

Smiggle’s pen like erasable highlighters are almost identical to the Typo erasable highlighters only they come in more colors. They’re quite pricey at $3.50 each and are only available individually. They come in pink, purple, green and yellow.

Unlike the Frixion erasable highlighters, these ones are dual tip with the highlighter on one end and a white tip on the other end to erase the highlighter.

Smiggle also have a ‘stax on’ highlighter. I initially though it was pricey at $6.95 but it does come with 5 different colors including a pretty teal color that is hard to find with highlighters! The highlighter stack is quite long (11 inches) – too big to take with for on the go planning. My favorite color is the teal – so pretty!

SCENTED HIGHLIGHTERS

These highlighters are scented, but the scents aren’t very strong. There is a slight fruity smell to them but it’s not over-powering.

Scented planner supplies are cool, but I actually bought them because of how bright they are – they’re the brightest highlighters I have! They also come in my favorite colors for color coding and have a pen style shape (which I much prefer to fat, traditional shape of highlighters).

BALLPOINT PENS

I purchased one of their individual pens as it was on sale for $1. It’s a nice ballpoint pen but it’s just like any other ballpoint pen you can get anywhere. There was also limited colors to choose from.

ERASABLE PEN

This pen was $3.50 (about the same as the Frixion erasable pens). I definitely prefer the Frixion pens – they erase easier and come in more colors than the Smiggle ones.

STACK ON PEN

This pen is more of a novelty pen than a functional one. You can’t separate the pens as each acts as the ‘lid’ for the others.

There is a highlighter at the bottom of the stack so this could be a good option for on the go planning if you just want to do a bit of color coding and carry a large pencil case.

The fine tip needle tip pens above the highlighter on the stack are ok – they write fine. The color combinations of the pens in these stacks could be improved by having a greater variety of colors.

MULTI PENS

I was very disappointed. I tested 3 of the 6 colors of the pen in the shop and they all wrote fine. I should have tested all 6 of the colors since 2 of the inks won’t write at all. That’s one problem with being able to test the pens, you don’t know how many people have tested them before you. If the pen is see through be sure to check the ink level to make sure you aren’t buying a half empty pen.

I tried dipping the tip in a little bit of water and scribbling on a scrap piece of paper but the ink is all dried up – not happy :(

this was going to be a pen for color coding to take with me on the go.

The colors of the inks that did work was really bad – so bright you can hardly read what you’ve written. You also have to push down hard on the pen to get it to work and it left a small indent on the other side of the page as well. The pen was also pricey at $6. I definitely won’t be buying that pen again!

TRI GRIP PENS

I love tri grip pens as they’re really easy to grip and write with. The rainbow colors in this pack are really nice. The photos don’t show it that well but you can actually see the ink of the yellow pen. I was a bit disappointed in the orange though – the color comes out duller than most of my other orange pens.

RETRACTABLE PENS

I wasn’t going to buy these but they were only $5 so I couldn’t resist (it works out at only $50c a pen!) They write with the same colored inks as the trip grip pens – just in the retractable pen style.

Overall I do like Smiggle’s rainbow stationery – but it is pricey. So make sure you wait for a sale to buy (they have them quite frequently). Oh and don’t make the mistake I did – always test pens before buying them!
