How to make a photo black and white in 30 seconds

Posted on

I haven't posted a Photoshop tutorial in a while so I thought it was time I changed that! I'm in the process of attempting to organize years' worth of photos stored on my computer and have them printed into Photobooks. It's a mammoth task (as you're probably aware, photos seem to multiply on your hard-drive and it usually ends up being a case of 'out of sight, out of mind').

One of the things I was experimenting with was making a photo black and white using Photoshop. I figured out a way to do it in 30 seconds and thought you might find it helpful! I'm thinking a scenic landscape photo printed onto canvas would look great in black and white :)

  1. Locate the file on your computer
  2. Drag and drop the file into Photoshop
  3. Go to the image menu at the top of Photoshop
  4. Choose image > adjustments > black and white
  5. Adjust the color levels as desired (I usually just leave it at the default settings)
  6. Re-save the image with a new file name by going to File > Save As
  7. That's it!
